THE WEEPING WATER FALL FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY THE WEEPING WATER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2012.  EVENTS INCLUDE A SCAVENGER HUNT, A SCARECROW CONTEST, PUMPKIN FESTIVAL, MUSEUM TOURS, BLACKSMITHING AND ROPE MAKING DEMONSTRATIONS, CHILI COOK-OFF, CRAFT SHOW, SILENT AUCTION, CHILDREN'S EVENTS, CAR SHOW, BINGO AND GARAGE SALES.   MORE DETAILS WILL BE COMING SOON.

BIKE TO CREATE A WORLD FREE OF MS

 

LOCAL ATHLETES, CYCLING ENTHUSIASTS AND MS ACTIVISTS WILL BE CHALLENGING BOTH THEIR PHILANTHROPIC SPIRIT AND THIER BODIES IN BIKE MS THIS FALL.  ON SEPT 8 AND 9, MORE THAN 350 CYCLISTS FROM NEBRASKA AND SURROUNDING AREAS WILL HIT THE ROADS IN THE NATIONAL MS SOCIETY'S ANNUAL BICYCLING EVENT.

RIDERS WILL PARTICIPATE IN A FIGURE-8 RIDE THAT WILL START AND FINISH IN BELLEVUE ON THE BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS.  THE RIDE WILL FEATURE A SHORT ROUTE OPTION OF 30 MILES, IN ADDITION TO 53, 75, AND 100 MILES ON DAY ONE AND 25 AND 50 MILE OPTIONS ON DAY TWO.

THE OVERNIGHT PORTION OF THE EVENT WILL FEATURE LIVE MUSIC, FOOD AND FAMILY FUN AS THE BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS WILL BE TRANSFORMED INTO THE BIKE MS VILLAGE, FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE INVITED TO ENJOY ACTIVITIES INCLUDING A  BOUNCE HOUSE, KID FRIENDLY SNACKS, FACE PAINTERS, BALLOON ANIMALS AND MUCH MORE.

GREENBLATT & SEAY PROUDLY ANNOUNCE THE SIXTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.  THIS HISTORICAL, HYSTERICAL EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, AT 2:30PM, DOWNSTAIRS IN THE OLD AVOCA, NEBRASKA SCHOOLHOUSE.  IN THE OPEN DIVISION, FIDDLERS WILL PLAY A HOEDOWN, A WALTZ, AND A TUNE OF CHOICE.  THERE WILL ALSO BE OTHER DIVISIONS OF COMPETITION AVAILABLE FOR THE ADVENTUROUS FIDDLERS, INCLUDING A SINGING FIDDLER'S CONTEST, A TWIN FIDDLER'S CONTEST, A FEE-FI-FAUX FIDDLER'S CONTEST (FIDDLE TUNES PLAYED ON ANY INSTRUMENT OTHER THAN A FIDDLE), AND A HOCUS-POCUS CONTEST (CROSS-TUNING, SOUND EFFECTS, DANCING, ETC.), WHICH WILL GIVE FIDDLERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY TUNES THAT ARE USUALLY NOT ALLOWED IN ANY OTHER CONTEST.  THE PRIZES FOR THE WINNERS IN THE OPEN DIVISION ARE $100 FOR 1ST PLACE, $50 FOR 2ND PLACE, AND $25 FOR 3RD PLACE.  PRIZES WILL ALSO BE AWARDED FOR 1ST PLACE IN THE OTHER CONTEST.

HILDEGARD CENTER FOR THE ARTS IS LAUNCHING AN EXCITING ARTS PROJECT FOR STUDENTS IN SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA CALLED HEROES AMONG US.  THIS PROJECT WILL INCLUDE COMPETITIONS IN WRITING, VISUAL ARTS AND SHORT-FILM THROUGHTOUT THE 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR AND PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH UNIQUE AND CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPLORE HEROES AND ULTIMATELY DISCOVER THE "HERO WITHIN".  AS PART OF HEROES AMONG US, HILDEGARD HAS POSTED LESSON PLANS (FREE TO EDUCATORS WITH NATIONAL STANDARDS) ON ITS WEBSITE www.hildegardecenter.org.  ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 (IN PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND HOME SCHOOLS) WITHIN A 50-MILE RADIUS OF LINCOLN ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN HEROES AMONG US.  IN ADDITION, 66 INDIVIDUAL "HEROES" WORKSHOPS ARE SCHEDULED FOR AT-RISK KIDS LOCATED AT CEDARS YOUTH SERVICES, MATT TALBOT KITCHEN AND OUTREACH, PEOPLE'S CITY MISSION AND LIGHTHOUSE.  THIS RICH PROJECT HAS THE SUPPORT OF CORPORATE SPONSOR SAINT ELIZABETH REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, THE NEBRASKA HUMANITIES COUNCIL, THE NEBRASKA CULTURAL ENDOWMENT, ARTS ARE BASIC AND MARCUS LINCOLN GRAND CINEMAS.
