FOOD FRENZY

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF A NEW FOOD BANK FOR THE WEEPING WATER COMMUNITY LOCATED AT THE WEEPING WATER CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

AS WE STRIVE TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS, WE ARE SPONSORING A FOOD FRENZY ON THE 13TH OF OCTOBER AND NOW REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY TO HELP MAKE THIS A SUCCESS.  THERE WILL BE A FREE WILL DINNER AND STREET DANCE FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY TO ENJOY.  ADMISSION TO THE EVENT INCLUDES VARIOUS ITEMS FOR THE FOOD BANK, INCLUDING NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS, PAPER PRODUCTS, SOAP, AS WELL AS COATS AND TOYS.  WE WILL ALSO BE CHARGING A $10/PER PERSON, $15/FAMILY FOR THOSE NOT DONATING AN ITEM.

HOWEVER, WE ALSO NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS EVENT, INCLUDING DONATIONS FOR A RAFFLE OR ASSISTANCE WITH THE FREE-WILL DINNER MENU.  THIS INCLUDES HAMBURGERS, HOTDOGS, AND CHIPS.  MONETARY GIFTS TO ASSIST WITH PURCHASING THESE ITEMS ARE ALSO WELCOME.

ALL DONATIONS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 306 WEST H STREET, OR HOPKINS TAVERN, 305 W ELDORA AVENUE.  PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO THE FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

OCTOBER IS NATIONAL LIVER AWARENESS MONTH, AND THE AMERICAN RED CROSS REMINDS DONORS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF DONATING BLOOD.  AS MANY ORGAN TRANSPLANT RECIPIENTS REQUIRE SEVERAL BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS DURING SURGERY.

CURRENTLY, APPROXIMATELY 17,000 PATIENTS ARE AWAITING LIVER TRANSPLANTS.   IT IS IMPORTANT TO ENSURE THE BLOOD SUPPLY REMAINS AT SUFFICIENT LEVELS AT ALL TIMES TO SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED.  WHEN AN EMERGENCY STRIKES, IT IS THE DONATED BLOOD ON THE SHELVES THAT MAY HELP SAVE PATIENT LIVES.

THE FOLLOWING IS UPCOMING AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES FROM OCTOBER 1-15, 2012 IN THE CASS COUNTY AREA.
