April 13-14, 2013

10:00AM - 4:00PM

In just over four weeks the barn doors and farm gates will be thrown open for our first event of the year!

In addition to our annual Spring Open House, we're adding a one-of-a-kind shopping opportunity.  If you've been to the farm you know we love rusty gold (some like to call it JUNK), antiques, vintage, repurposed, upcycled and handmade treasures, and we've rounded up a collection of vendors who share our love of this great JUNK for the first-annual Rural Route Rust sale!

We've confirmed nine outside vendors (with probably a few more to come) who will be set up around the farm.  The barn is stuffed with our own Bloom Where You're Planted Farm finds including primitives, garden junk, "man-tiques", vintage textiles and kitchen goods, repurposed lighting, industrial accents, and leather cuff bracelets handmade from vintage belts.

The Schoolhouse Care will be serving lunch and baked goods both days, and the young and young-at-heart will enjoy playing and exploring around the farm and visiting the farm animals.

Admission is FREE, so mark your calendars and invite your friends!  We hope to see you soon at the farm!

On Sunday, April 14, at 2:30pm, Greenblatt & Seay presents their original mini-musical, "Noah's Ark."

"Noah's Ark" is a lively adaptation of the story of Noah and the great flood.  This unique Greenblatt & Seay production explores the fate of the humans and other animals on the ark, from the day they boarded, to the day they disembarked.  The words, by David Seay, examine the relationships between the inhabitants of the ark, and how they managed to survive from one unpredictable day to the next.  The music, By Deborah Greenblatt, suggests many of the globes great musical traditions, such as blues, Cajun, Calypso, Klezmer, a "Gilbert & Sullivan"-style jig, a tango, and even a round.  Greenblatt & Seay & Friends will be singing and playing a variety of instruments during the performance, including a 5-string fiddle, harmonica, guitar, tiple, bouzouki.

The concert will be downstairs in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, and followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34.  Admission if $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, and $1 for children.  Seating is limited.  For more information, write to Greenblatt & Seay, The Old Schoolhouse, PO Box 671, Avoca NE  68307, or call 402-275-3221, or email them at This email address is being protected from spambots. The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performace Series since 1990.  Music lessions, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.

The Living Lords Supper, complete with original music, will be performed at the Weeping Water United Church of Christ (Congregational Church) located at 204 North Elm Street, at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 24th.  It is an original script composed by Pastor Mary McQueen.  Original music by Mr. Gary Randall and Mr. Ken McQueen will be performed.    No Admission Fee.  Please bring a can of food for the food pantry.
