Plans are being finalized for the Weeping Water Fall Festival, to be held on September 28, 2013. A day of fun, food and music, sponsored by the Weeping Water Chamber of Commerce.
Registration forms for the Scavenger Hunt may be picked up at City Hall during the week of September 23-28. Completed forms must be turned in at the Auditorium (Gibson Hall) by 4pm on September 28. A random drawing will be held for two $50 Chamber Bucks Certificates. Must be 16 or older to participate. One entry per person. Need not be present to win.
Residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to use their imagination and create a unique scarecrow. All entries should be ready for registration at City Hall by September 23 and will be displayed during the week of the 23-28. The public is welcome to vote for their favorite scarecrow at City Hall during the week of the 23-27 or vote at the Auditorium on September 28 during the Craft Show between 9am and 4pm. Prize awards will be attached to the winning scarecrows shortly after the voting ends and cash awards of $50 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place and $10 for 3rd place will be forwarded to the winners within the following week. Museum Tours of Heritage House Museum and Memory Lane Museum will be offered throughout the day.
Rope making and blacksmithing demonstrations will be provided throughtout the day.
Children can be entertained with the pumpkin painting and fall craft projects being provided at the Gazebo.
A Show N Shine non-judged free event, which is open to all types of vehicles, street rods, antiques, classic cards, muscle cars, motorcyles, trucks and tractors will be held on Eldora Avenue from 11am-4pm. Contact Beau Flint at 402-297-6660 to pre-register.
The After Prom Group will sponsor Bingo from 2-4pm at the Community Center.
Throughout the day, there will be a Pumpkin Festival from 10am-6pm at the nearby Bloom Where You're Planted Farm located at 911 S 108th Street, Avoca.

The Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services, Nebraska Radon Program, is conducting their annual state Radon Poster Contest. This contest is open to all Nebraska children aged 9-14. DHHS will submit the three winning posters of the state contest to the National Radon Poster Contest, where 4 winners receive cash prizes between $400-$1000 as well as national recognition. Last year a Nebraska child won third place in the National contest, which was wonderful!
