The pet clinic will be held this Saturday, April 12, from 9am-11am at the fire barn.  Plattsmouth Vet Clinic will be on hand to give vaccinations and you can also license your pet at that time.  Pet licenses are due by May 1, 2014.  You can stop by the city office anytime between 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday to license also.  There is a $7 per pet licensing fee and you need to have a current copy of rabies vaccine.

RURAL ROUTE RUST - A VINTAGE AND HANDMADE MARKET

'RAVE ON' at the Lofte Community Theatre

Omaha native Billy McGuigan and his group of multi-talented musicians will bring this Buddy Holly tribute concert, "Rave On!" to the Lofte Community Theatre on Saturday, April 12th at 7pm.

Popular nationwide "Rave On!" is a high-energy rock 'n roll extravaganza that will energize you with such Buddy Holly classics as, "Peggy Sue," "That'll Be The Day," "It's So Easy," and much more.  In a unique twist, the concert also pays homage to other fellow classic rock artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and more.

On April 12th, come to the fourth annual SAFE KIDS SPRING SAFETY EVENT AND BIKE RODEO at the Plattsmouth Community Center from 10am to 1pm!  This free family event includes plenty of fun things to do, free food (courtesy of Hy-Vee) and lots of great prizes.  The more fun activities that kids do, the more prize tickets they will earn.  Some (but not all) of the prizes that will be given away at the event are on display at these locations:  The Plattsmouth Car Dealers along Highway 75, Plattsmouth Public Library, Plattsmouth Early Childhood Center, Plattsmouth Elementary School, Hy-Vee, Edward Jones, Children's Physicians Clinic, and Plattsmouth Community Center.  When you visit these sponors to look at the prizes, thank them for helping to make this year's event the best ever!  Mark your calendar for April 12th, and come have a great time at this free family event!

On Sunday, April 13, at 3pm, the Hastings Symphony will be performing a world premiere:  the world's first concerto for nyckelharpa and orchestra.  The piece is composed by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, and will be performed by multi-instrumentalist, Deborah Greenblatt.  The piece is in three movements, each one reflecting a story by Hans Christian Anderson:  "The Brave Tin Solider," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The Emperor's New Clothes."

The nyckelharpa is the official fiddle of Sweden.  The instrument has 16 strings in all.  There are 3 meldoy strings, manipulated by keys, one droning string, and 12 strings that vibrate sympathetically.

Scandinavian Concert

Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features a concert of Scandinavian music on Sunday, May 11, at 2:30pm, in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  Greenblatt & Seay will be playing a variety of instruments, including fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, recorders, pennywhistles, and the nyckelharpa.  The nyckelharpa is the official keyed fiddle of Sweden, and has 16 strings.

Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago.  Their performance on May 11th will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay.

The concert will be downstairs, and followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraskan on the 13C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990.  Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.
