Overview of Weeping Water Junior’s Washington DC Trip
The students attending Close-Up, an educational trip to Washington DC, just arrived back from their trip last week. As a part of the Close-Up organization the students were given educational opportunities that classes going independently to Washington may not have been able to experience. For example, all students that attend Close-Up, no matter from what state, get an opportunity to meet with one or both of their state’s senators and their area’s representative to ask questions and take pictures. Students are also able to take a tour of the inside of the capitol building, an opportunity that is very hard to come by.
For these students, only good remarks are stated. It is obvious that all of the students had a great time with this organization. These students also had the chance to see the Washington Memorial, Holocaust Museum, War Memorials, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt Memorials, Arlington Cemetery, and many other national landmarks. The students were required to attend fun and educational meetings and workshops to teach them more about the history of the landmarks they visited and also about how the United State’s government works.
Most importantly, the students were able to make friends with others from different states. The room assignments through this program are a little different than most, the students may room with one person from their school, but they are also assigned two roommates from another state. This unique room situation taught the students to make friends and hang out with people not from their own schools. Overall the students had a great time and most wish the chance would arise again for them to be a part of such a great organization.
