David Seay, Master Artist with the Nebraska Arts Council, will be presenting a Harmonica Workshop/Concert on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at 2:30pm in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. Each paid admission includes a free harmonica for those 6 years old or older. The workshop will include an introduction to the 10 hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C Major.
The workshop will be downstairs in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse and followed by light refreshments, and an acoustic jam session with the performers. Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, and $1 for children. Seating is limited.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.

The Eighteenth Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee in Avoca, Nebraska was enjoyed by a full house on Sunday afternoon, October12, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse.
Twelve musicians from Auburn, Avoca, Alvo, Bellevue, Omaha, Ord, and Seward, Stillwell, Kansas competed and jammed with their fiddles, guitars, a harmonica, a clarinet, and harmonious voices, for cash money and prizes.
In the Open Division, each fiddler had to play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. The winners were:
First Place - Cece Chapel, From Stillwell, Kansas
Second Place - Sophie Clark, from Omaha NE
Third Place - Helen Brousek, From Bellevue NE
In the Singing Division, each fiddler has to play and sing a tune at the same time. The winner was Sophie Clark, from Omaha NE
First Place in the Hocus Pocus Division was earned by the magical trio of John McNaught from Alvo, Mary Fohner from Elmwood, and Lee Copple from Elmwood.
In the Twin Fiddling Division, two fiddlers had to play a tune together, with one of them playing the melody, and the other playing the harmony. The winners were Helen Corrigan, From Omaha and Olivia York from Bellevue.
Next year, the 19th Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015.
